I recently finished helping out on the back-end of the NISE Network's ArtNano site for San Francisco's Exploratorium. Working on a 'straight-up' website is a rare departure for us at Stamen, but we're big fans of the Exploratorium and were delighted at the opportunity to work with them.
The ArtNano site features contributions from several artists tasked with exploring the nanoscale. My favourites are Semiconductor's gorgeously glitchy 200 Nanowebbers video, Scott Snibbe's multi-scale Three Drops installation and Santiago Ortiz's Time Spiral. Also featured are artworks by Eric Heller, Victoria Vesna and Stephanie Maxwell.
If you're interested in that sort of thing, read the full version of this post for some notes on using the Wordpress blog platform as a CMS for a small website project like ArtNano.
Sorry for the recent outage on Processing Blogs. For some reason all the wordpress plugins deactivated themselves. I hate the internet, and the internet hates me.
Let's try this again. If you're reading this on Processing Blogs or via its feed, then everything should be working.
Instead of Feedwordpress and Planet Planet put together with sticky tape and glue, I'm using the better documented Planet Venus and WP-Venus so our archives are maintained.
If you ever need to run a site similar to Processing Blogs and your web host can run python then I definitely recommend Planet or Planet Venus as the solution. WP-Venus complained a little bit when I converted from Feedwordpress, but it looks good so far: hopefully the archives will be worth the effort.
Still finding my feet with Wordpress - it seems powerful enough, but also has a "sticky tape and glue" feel about it. I guess it will feel more mature as it tends towards 3.0. The Blogger import process was a bit bumpy because the built-in one didn't work. I've written up what I had to do instead, but it's a bit confusing so I probably won't post it here. I also messed up the date stamps on my comments and haven't had a chance to fix them yet.
Does anyone know if there are plug-ins that will:
For what it's worth, I'm already using Ultimate Tag Warrior, Widgets (plus Feeds Widget, del.icio.us Widget and Ulitimate Tag Warrior widget) and Post Control and Draft Control.
